The Modernization Programme of the Brussels Metro is an infrastructural and technological plan aimed at revolutionizing public transport in the Belgian capital. The project is managed and coordinated by STIB/MIVB (Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles), the local public operator which is also the end-user, and spans across the entire underground network of the Brussels-Capital Region. The programme involves the implementation of a new CBTC signaling system, the introduction of the new M7 trains, and the upgrading of the infrastructure and supervision systems. The objective is to increase network capacity, enhance service reliability, reduce waiting times, and prepare for future fully automated operations.
